RIGHT TO PETITION AT CHURCH

Pastors and church members do not give up their civil rights when they walk into the sanctuary on Sunday morning. Pacific Justice Institute Chief Counsel, Kevin T. Snider, has sent a letter. Here are some pertinent excerpts from the letter:

“The purpose of this letter is to inform you of your church’s right concerning signature gathering for petitions supporting or opposing voter-sponsored ballot initiatives or pending legislation in Nevada.

a church can engage in limited lobbying activities.   Such activities may include signature-gathering drives within church facilities.

Moreover, should your church face a legal challenge for engaging in the acts described above, the Pacific Justice Institute will represent you without charge.”

Ask the members of your church to sign the petition and help us pass stable, predictable and transparent property taxes. Keep families and seniors in your church from being taxed out of their homes.

I need your help to fight the AFL-CIO and the teacher’s union.   They are opposed to the First Amendment right of we the people to petition our government.   I believe this is a frivolous lawsuit, motivated by greedy self-interest designed to waste our money and time and defeat the initiative process.

I have always had a desire to have stable and predictable property taxes protected by the Constitution from whimsical governmental increases. Now that the Legislative session is over, it is time to focus our energy on making that a reality. This website will be updated regularly with news about the Property Tax Restraint Initiative. Please read the July 31,2007 article in the Las Vegas Review Journal http://www.lvrj.com/news/8825152.html

Please join others who share our desire for lower taxes, less government, secure borders as well as stable and predictable property taxes. We are starting now to get information out to an army of the silent majority. Please go to the donation page and help us meet our $400,000 goal.
With sincere appreciation for all of your support,

Sharron Angle, Chair We the People Nevada

NEVADA STYLE PROP 13 REVIVAL

Are you ready to hear some exciting news for every Nevada citizen who supports stable, predictable property tax restraint?    A Nevada style Prop 13 still lives!

The need for real property tax restraint is even more urgent now than it was in 2004 and 2006.    Although property owners in Incline Village were indeed able to prove that the property tax structure in Nevada is inequitable, and with the Supreme Court ruling that they should have received property tax refunds in 2005, no one has yet received a check.   The case continues to be mired in bureaucratic red-tape.

$200,000 DONATION

Howard Jarvis tried and failed several times before Prop 13 was finally passed in California.   We have had two very close but unsuccessful tries here in Nevada, and each time our failure has hinged upon lack of funding.   Experience has taught us that it will take significant funding ($400,000) for a comprehensive campaign to be successful.  This will include the paying of signature gatherers who will collect  the required 56,000 signatures for ballot qualification, the legal defense for any court challenges, and the funding of a media campaign for the gaining of public support   (I have prepared a prospectus for the 2008 campaign and it is enclosed in this letter) .

There is more good news.   I am extremely pleased to report that a private donor has written a check to “We the People Nevada” in the amount of $200,000!  That means we are halfway to our goal!!

YOUR OPINION
John Caselli says, The University System is so expensive we should just shut it down and give each graduating Nevada student $50,000 a year to attend a school of his choice and we would be money ahead.

Dick Geyer says, The so-called Business Tax is a payroll tax and thus is an income tax because it is based on a percentage of wages earned. The State Constitution prohibits an income tax. Dr Eastman concurs and says it is a violation of article 10 section 1.9. He also says the higher tax on bank payrolls violates article 10 section 1.1
